Freckles in the fourth grade.

Our favorite freckle-faced gal is in the fourth grade. (sigh). She is starting a blog in which spelling doesn't count. Feel free to read up on life as an almost 10-year old.

Maya's foot

Last Tuesday M injured her ankle. She rolled it on some rocks in our yard playing with the neighbors. Even though it wasn't very swollen she limped around for days. Knowing her propensity for the dramatic, Dad and I told her to suck it up. Last Friday, We decided it needed to be looked at and had her in to the Doctor. The radiologist saw something on her growth plate that was concerning and sent us to a specialist. The specialist was Dr. Siegel, Cookie's club foot doctor. D took her this past Thursday for another x-ray etc. Apparently it is a sprained ankle and foot and there was some damage to the growth plate. Freckles is in a brace and is supposed to stay off of it. We have to watch that that growth plate doesn't fuse together and cause growing problems for her ankle. The worst news is that she is not going to be able to play volleyball this fall-- a big disappointment to my little Misty-may wanna-be. My little limper has leveraged her injury well and has gotten out of chores for the last two weeks. We are hoping for a speedy recovery!

news

Well there was so major excitement Tuesday morning at our house. We woke to scraping gravel and moving trucks. Clearly there is some work being done on the road across the street from us. This is a dream come true for Cookie, as one of her favorite things is construction vehicles called " diggers". Upon further investigations they were digging up the sewer line. We watched them dig for a while.
We are slowly but surely getting back into the swing of homeschooling. We have been sleeping late, which is a pattern that we need to change. We have a new math curriculum this year and are liking Singapore Math. Currently we are studying Pilgrims, and early settlements in the new world. Next week we add Science with a study of weather from christian cottage program. I am pleased with m's writing and she continues to improve her vocabulary. She is working on an entry for a writing contest for kids her age. The deadline for her submission is October 1.
My mother in law left today. She had been with us this week to celebrate D's birthday and go to the doctor down here. It is always a challenge to have her with us, but this visit was surprisingly easy. I worry about her failing health and dampened spirit.
My job officially starts next week. Students come on Thursday. M will go with me and C is looking forward to playing with baby B at her babysitter's house.
It is a busy but exciting time for usat our house. We wish everyone a wonderful and relaxing Labor Day Weekend.

Watermelon Girl

Nobody likes watermelon like my C. It is her favorite food. We had a fantastic day at the splash park with a picnic, watermelon and our dear friends (thanks for the pictures, Sara).

End of summer

This past Sunday after church, we went to the Numismatic Museum in downtown Colorado Springs. D and his dad both collected money, so we enjoy seeing these displays. Freckles enjoyed doing a scavenger hunt from the library all around the museum. D liked seeing the very rare coins in the collection. I entertained Cookie and looked the "Good, Bad and Ugly- faces on Money" exhibit.

We tried La'au's taco bar for lunch. It is a taco stand tucked away in an alley near Colorado College. I liked their fish tacos.

On Tuesday, we went to to the Olympic training center. We hadn't been in years and wanted to go while the Olympics were going on. M is a huge Volleyball fan these days. She wrote to Misty May- Treanor this week to ask for an autograph. We have watched all the matches, and she begins volleyball at the YMCA in a week.

D trained at the Olympic Training center for Team Handball in the 90's, His knee problems really put a damper on his Olympic team handball and Raquetball dreams. He tried to explain the complicated rules to his future olympic hopeful, M.

Go Team USA!

Last Friday, We were invited to Nickel-a-Play with m's friend from church, Katya and her mother. We wasted lots of nickels and had a good time.

No, I didn't put nickels in the machines for C. She drove this one for hours.

Boulder

We enjoyed our day in Boulder last Sunday. We enjoyed Pearl Street Mall, I shopped, Freckles climbed on the rocks, D watched the people and Cookie rode the pig. We had Mexican food ( of course) at Rio Grande and walked around the mall for a few hours enjoying D's day off.

This pig is outside a fantasti paper store ( I thought of you, Steph). We had a hard time getting the little one off the pig. I think she rode 50 miles on that thing.

These days are so precious. Have nothing to do... drive to Boulder...eat... and just hang out together. A perfect day.

Cookie

C is so funny. She doesn't say much at all. We have been trying to get her to talk for months. She says "momma" pretty consistantly- mostly when she wants me to get her something. She says " me-no-me-no-me-no-me-no" when she doesn't want to do something...
Mom-" do you want to take a nap?"
baby C- "me-no-me-no-me-no".

However, I have to say that my favorite thing that she says is "cookie". Anything good to eat is called "cookie" -everything from breakfast cereal to watermelon has been labeled cookie. She has even taken to calling herself cookie. A little girl at the library asked her what her name was and she said " cookie". The little girl said " Hi cookie, my name is Mandy- do you want to play dinosaurs with me?". my little blue -eyed girl looked surprised.. I encouraged her" Go on, Cookie, go play dinosaurs with Mandy". So Cookie and Mandy played for a few minutes- which is about as long as Cookie's attention can hold. We love that she calls herself that and have been calling her that as well. Cute while it lasts...

Today Cookie is 20 months old. We have loved seeing her grow up. She is no longer my baby. Her hair can fit in pigtails (thanks, Sara) and she insists on picking out her own clothes in the morning. She eats anything now ( except strawberries- it causes a rash), tries to sit on the potty, loves kissing her babies and reading in her tent. Our little cookie is growing up!
